Alicia Nuñez appointed President & CEO of Chicanos Por La Causa

PHOENIX, AZ – Chicanos Por La Causa has appointed Alicia Nuñez as its new president and CEO. Nuñez, with over 23 years of financial and operational management experience in both for-profit and nonprofit sectors, becomes the first female to assume the leadership role in the organization’s 55-year history!

Delma Herrera, Chair of Chicanos Por La Causa’s Board of Directors, announced the appointment on Wednesday, praising Nuñez’s visionary leadership and dedication to staff and communities. “As the first woman to assume this role in over five decades, Alicia represents a beacon of inspiration for people everywhere,” said Herrera.

Nuñez, who has held various roles within CPLC since 2006, conveyed her honor in assuming the new position.“I look forward to working collaboratively with our dedicated team, supporters, and partners to drive positive change and continued to create lasting impact in our communities,”  she expressed. 

As CPLC’s eighth CEO, Nuñez will oversee one of the nation’s largest Latino organizations, operating across Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas. Her appointment signals a commitment to community impact and strategic growth to address the evolving needs of stakeholders.

With immediate effect, Nuñez embarks on a transformative journey, building upon CPLC’s legacy of community service to deliver impactful programs in Advocacy, Education, Health & Human Services, Housing, and Economic Development.

Recognized for her leadership, Nuñez was selected as one of 12 nonprofit leaders for the prestigious Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust’s Class of Piper Fellows in 2022, in partnership with Stanford University. Additionally, she completed the 2023 NeighborWorks America’s Achieving Excellence Program at Harvard University.

Beyond her professional roles, Nuñez serves on the Board of Directors for Valleywise Health Foundation and the Southwest Folklife Alliance. She also chairs the Sí Se Vota CPLC Action Fund, leading the Latino Loud nonpartisan voter engagement campaign.

Nuñez’s personal journey reflects the diverse fabric of the Latino community, having grown up in Los Angeles’s Lincoln Heights area to immigrant parents from Sinaloa, Mexico. Today, she resides in the Phoenix area with her family, poised to lead CPLC into a future characterized by resilience, innovation, and community empowerment.
