D-backs, White Sox trade blows before father’s day showdown

By Johanna-Rosalye Luna

Phoenix, AZ – The reigning National League champions, the Arizona Diamondbacks (34-37), opened a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox (19-53) at Chase Field on Friday night.

D-backs Take Series Opener

Arizona wasted no time setting the tone for the series, cruising to a 7-1 victory on Friday. Right-hander Ryne Nelson delivered a stellar performance on the mound, striking out a career-high eight batters over six innings. The offense provided plenty of support, with Joc Pederson and Eugenio Suárez launching solo home runs.

Celebrating Native American Culture

Saturday’s game served as a celebration of the vibrant Native American community in Arizona. The pre-game festivities included a parade featuring athletes from over 20 tribes competing in the 24th annual Inter-Tribal Tournament. Traditional dance performances from groups like the Standing Horse Dancers and Guardians of the Grand Canyon added a special touch to the evening.

White Sox Bounce Back

Despite Arizona’s hot start in June, currently tied for the third-best record in the National League with a 9-4 mark, the Chicago White Sox battled back on Saturday night. The game went back-and-forth before Chicago pulled away for a 9-2 victory. Third baseman Lenyn Sosa provided the key blow, crushing a three-run homer in the top of the 7th inning. Andrew Vaughn also had a productive night, belting a solo home run and finishing with two hits.

D-backs Manager Ejected

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo was ejected in the bottom of the 8th inning for arguing balls and strikes.

Looking Ahead: Father’s Day Series Finale

The Diamondbacks and White Sox will wrap up their seesaw battle on Sunday afternoon, a special Father’s Day matchup. The first 15,000 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative Father’s Day Polo shirt. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM. Don’t miss your chance to see the D-backs close out the series and celebrate dads at Chase Field! Tickets are available at dbacks.com.
