Diamondbacks RHP Cecconi struggles in 7-2 loss to Orioles

PHOENIX, AZ – The fight and hope for a chance at the postseason is still alive in the dessert for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

After Arizona’s rough stop from a six-game winning streak against the Cincinnati Reds the team went 0 for 3 with the Los Angeles Dodgers still keeping their postseason hopes alive, however falling from second to third place in the NL Wild Card race.

The Diamondbacks began a 3-game series at home against the Orioles taking the first game in the series 4-2 Friday night. However, that would be a different story fort the team come Saturday night. While the Diamondbacks offense would get them on the board with two runs in the third inning the Orioles would respond aggressively, stunning D-backs starting pitcher Slade Cecconi, to take the lead by brining in six runs in the fourth inning.

Although the Diamondbacks were able to slow the Orioles offense for the remainder of the game. Baltimore’s Alex Rutschman homered to add to the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Arizona responded late in the game to close in on the Orioles advantage with a homer by catcher Gabriel Moreno, however it was not enough for a come back win.

Arizona’s pitching continues to be a challenge for the team while D-backs Manager Torey Lovullo continues adjust and address the concerns game after game to make the improvements needed to win and remain alive for a chance at the postseason.

After Saturday night’s 7-2 loss to the Orioles, the Diamondbacks are tied with the San Francisco Giants for a third place in the NL wild card race.
