In 2022, Sewald and his wife, Molly, started an initiative ‘Strikeout 4 Kids’ to provide children a safe environment, free from abuse and neglect by creating strong and successful families. After their arrival to the valley in 2023, they joined forces with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Child Crisis Arizona, as part of their continued efforts to make a positive impact in the lives of others. In addition to Sewald’s Strikeout 4 Kids, the pitcher has supported the following initiatives alongside the Diamondbacks Foundation; Veteran & Military Affairs, youth sports, education, and charitable giving. Sewald and his wife presented a $150,000 donation to Child Crisis Arizona as part of Sewald’s Strikeouts 4 Kids continued support.

On September 15, MLB celebrates Roberto Clemente for his contributions on and off the field throughout his career in Major League Baseball. In addition to celebrating the Hall of Famers legacy, the league announces the nominees for the Roberto Clemente Award, baseball’s most prestigious honor a player receives for their “extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.” On this day, each of the 30 clubs recognize their nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award, who are nominated by the player’s club.

In 2024, the players nominated made an impact in their communities through philanthropic activities, advocacy and support to important cause such as education programs, cancer, mental health, access to baseball and softball, environmental sustainability and more. Of the 30 club nominees in 2024, 17 include first-time honorees for the prestigious award, to include D-Backs own Paul Sewald.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and other MLB teams celebrated Roberto Clemente Day by wearing No. 21 patches on their jerseys to honor his legacy. Sunday marked the 50th anniversary of his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The winner of the Roberto Clemente Award will be announced at the 2024 World Series. Fan voting is open through September 29, 2024. To cast your vote and learn more about the Roberto Clemente Award visit  MLBTogether.com/clementeaward
