PHOENIX, AZ- The Arizona Diamondbacks bolstered their lineup on Tuesday, agreeing to a one-year contract with veteran designated hitter and outfielder Joc Pederson. The deal includes a mutual option for 2025.
Pederson, a two-time World Series champion (2020 Dodgers, 2021 Braves) and two-time All-Star, brings a potent bat and postseason experience to the D-backs. In his last two seasons against right-handed pitching, he slashed .260/.354/.488 with 35 home runs and 107 RBI.
His power, on-base skills, and experience are expected to be valuable assets to the teams lineup, especially against right-handed pitching.
Pederson, 31, has played parts of 10 seasons in the majors with the Dodgers, Cubs, Braves, and Giants, hitting .237/.336/.464 with 186 home runs and 485 RBI. He’s also a threat in the playoffs, ranking among the top National League players in games played, home runs, and RBI since 2015.
To make room for Pederson on the 40-man roster, the D-backs designated right-hand pitcher Collin Snider for assignment. Snider was claimed off waiver from the Royals in December.
The addition of Pederson gives the D-backs a proven power hitter and a veteran presence in the clubhouse. He joins a lineup that already features young stars like Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Ketel Marte, and could help the D-backs make a return run to the World Series in 2024.
