PHOENIX, AZ — The WNBA and its Changemaker partners and the Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council hosted the league’s first-ever WNBA Changemaker Day as a series of events to tip-off the 2024 WNBA All-Star weekend.
This event, dedicated to the WNBA Changemakers’ commitment to advancing, elevating, and economically empowering underrepresented groups through the power of sport took place on Thursday afternoon at The Parsons Leadership Center for Girls and Women at Camp South Mountain.
The event featured WNBA athletes, volunteers from each Changemaker partner, and Girl Scouts activities focused on assembling program boxes to be distributed to 6,000 Girl Scouts in grades 4-8 across Arizona. These boxes include activities focused on Life Skills, STEM, and Outdoors, aimed at building confidence and encouraging creativity and problem-solving among the Girl Scouts.
Following the assembly of the program boxes, WNBA talent shared inspiring messages live-streamed to Girl Scouts in councils nationwide.
WNBA Commissioner, Cathy Engelbert, confirmed the league engaged more than 5,000 young people in the Phoenix area through its WNBA Changemaker program.
