Ruben Gallego announces bid for 2024 Senate race

PHOENIX, AZ – Arizona Democratic Congressman Ruben Gallego officially announced his bid to the 2024 senate race against Independent Senator Kyrsten Sinema.

Gallego made the announcement in a video via social media on Monday, stating that he will fight for Arizona families to reach their ‘American Dream’. The priorities at hand for Gallego are focused on education, his commitment to veterans, health care and the economy.

Sinema changed her status from Democrat to Independent in December, although still keeping her democratic committee assignment. However, it remains remains unclear whether Sinema will run for re-election in 2024. She stated that her focus is on immigration issues in the state and the economy, and that a senate run for 2024 is not in her plans at the moment. The congresswoman has declined requests for comment. Although is was reported in December that Sinema filed paperwork for a 2024 candidacy an an Independent, it it yet to be confirmed.

Gallego, a son of immigrant parents and a military veteran, was elected to the House of Representatives for the first time in 2014. If elected, the 43-year old veteran would become Arizona’s first latino elected to the senate.

It remains unknown who will run for the Republican party as a bid has yet to be announced. Some of the possible candidates who have expressed interest include previous senator candidate Blake Masters, Arizona State Treasurer and Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb. Other candidate possibilities include ex-gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone and Mayor of Tucson Regina Moreno.
